…”let me just say”…

22218_989848007712282_8481197791787430355_nAs I sit here on “The Deck”, enjoyin’ the peace & solitude of the early mornin’, caressin’ my 2nd Mug-O-Joe, watchin’ the little swirls of steam risin’ from it as I anticipate the magical elixir it’s about to deliver upon my taste buds, let me just say “I hope you enjoy your mornin’ as much as I am mine”. Y’all have a wonderful day…”Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>

…”Nice way to start my mornin’ “…

About 9:20am this mornin’ my son & his family rolled out of the drive way headin’ back to “The Ham”. In, what seemed to be, just a short time I got a call. Papa, the girls forgot to release their bucket of “Water Creatures/Snails” they had caught over the weekend & want you to go & turn’em loose on the “Sandbar”. I consented to handle the chore. That meant a trip to the Water. And what does a “Trip to the Water mean”? I grabbed a rod & reel, with a “Lunker Lure” with white & red skirt on it, & down to the water I headed. First things first, I released the “Bucket of Creatures” as I said I would. Then the castin’ began. I missed two quick strikes. First thing I did was reel it in quickly, with that 6:3 gear ratio Abu Garcia, & checked the sharpness of the hook. Nope, couldn’t blame the misses on a dull hook. I guess I was too anxious & didn’t wait for the feel of the tug on the other end to “Set the Hook properly”!  Number 1 Rule when fishin’ “Top Water”! So I made a few more casts, caught two good tournament size Spotted Bass, released’em to fight another day, & headed back to my chores. Nice way to start my mornin’ though…Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>

…””HAPPY FATHERS DAY”…

Out on The Deck 5-26-16Today is “Fathers Day”! To all of you FATHERS “HAPPY FATHERS DAY”! To both of my Fathers, Charles W. Gray (1953 R.I.P.) & my Step-Father Claude C. McGraw (2002 R.I.P.), I thank them for, both, the rolls they played in my life. My Father (Charles) passed away, in an accident, when I was only 20 months old. I really never knew him. I would also like to thank all of those “Neighbor Hood Fathers” who shared their time & leadership with me in my early years. To THEIR children thank you for sharing them with me, it meant more than you’ll ever know. To those of you who have lost your Fathers cherish your time & memories with them. To those of you who are lucky enough to still have your Fathers make sure you recognize them today. The day will come when you’ll wish you had. If you can’t be with them today CALL them, it’ll mean an awful lot. Folks of my age & older care NOTHING about getting a TEXT. DON”T DO IT!. Those are for you younger folks. As for Me, I’m blessed to have my Children & Grandchildren with me…”Hold’em Hook”…..BG>

…”But oh they’ll ALL be Talkin’ “…

THANK GOD IT WASN’T ANY WORSE THAN IT WAS!…

This mornin’ our Nation suffered from the actions of yet another CRAZY! At approximately 7:00am ET/6:00am CT a Stranger, I’ll refer to him as Stranger #1, on a street in Alexandria, Virginia asks another Stranger, I’ll refer to him as Stranger #2, about some men out on a Baseball Field in a local park, “are those Democrats or Republicans”?  Stranger #2 responds “Republicans”. Just a few moments later GUNSHOTS begin to ring out! A US Congressman lays on the ground WOUNDED! Luckily it wasn’t Life Threatening we later found out. And few others as well, including Protection Detail members. Also, Stranger #1, the shooter, was shot & taken down. After hearing the reports on the News, about all that had transpired, by the DC Police & Alexandria, Virginia Poilce, & as well as others, I predicted (@ approximately 11:00am ET/10:00amCT) “I just wonder if the “Shooter” will ever make it to the inside of a Court? Hum-m-m-m…”. I less than an one (1) I then heard the “Shooter had passed away”. I then posted a second comment (@ approximately 11:45am ET/10:45amCT) “I hate to say “I told you so, but, I TOLD YOU SO”!…“. Now, let the RUMORS Begin! ALL of the Talkin’ Heads are droolin’, as they rush for their microphones & cameras, to be the 1st to spew what little is STILL known about exactly happened & why. Hell, most of them will be Talkin’ just to hear themselves Talk! But oh they’ll ALL be Talkin’! You know it’s goin’ to happen…”Hold’em Hook”…..BG>

…”FUN, FUN, FUN!!!”…

Clean up duties here this mornin’ after my son & his family left for “The Ham”.  My Bride had headed to work as well. After mornin’ chores was Lawn Mower Shoppin’ time. After 11 yrs my old one, after 11 hard years, laid down & died on me last week. This evenin’ my Bride & I got thru with a “Left Overs Supper” so I went down to the Boathouse afterwards with a “Perch Jerkin’ Rig” in hand. Needed to work off some stress. You know, the tensions of bein’ Retired! My Son left some “Live Red Worms” here so I thought I’d just help myself. I think I only really used about 6 of’em all total. But damn’em Lil Suckers were all over’em. The total catch was 2-spotted bass (1 of which was pretty good. On 6 lb. test line on a medium action rod it was a blast!), 2-bream, & about 25 to 30 small Squealers/CatFish. FUN, FUN, FUN!!! Made me recall “Ole East Lake Park” days as a child. “Hold’em Hook”!….BG>

…”she’ll reach ever higher each day”…

Eight years ago God gave me a New Branch on My Family Tree. Oh how it has continued to grow & bloom into such beautiful limb. So straight & tall. I have been truly amazed by the direction this new limb has steered the direction of my life. I was fortunate enough to retire just a couple of weeks prior to this Little Sprig Buddin’ into such a tiny limb.  Watchin’ her grow & now swaying in the breeze yet always comin’ back to this straight little limb growin’ even longer, stronger, and more beautiful as the seasons go by. I look at her in amazement. It makes me so proud to be able to be close enough to witness all of the changes she has experienced. I now realize that we all have grown new foliage for the new season. I too have bent in the breezes & weather my storms. My bark grows thicker & darker thru the years & decades. My limbs have begun to weaken, we all hate to admit that, & some get weaker as each storm takes it toll. As I approach each new season of renewal I appear to have fewer leaves, my colors aren’t as vivid as they once were on my individual branches. My roots get a little loose in the soil around me. But I sprout others & send them as deep as possible into the soil around me to hold this Old Trunk upright, to support those other limbs that depend on my strengths as the Storms continue to rage & blow my way. Some Old Trees are looked upon as “Trees Of Wisdom”. I don’t know where I rate there. That’s for others to judge. I now understand it’s directly related to the seasons, the storms, the climate around us, the denseness of the forest around us, & the transplants we have weathered give us our Strength & Wisdom. And yet as the risin’ of each mornin’ sun radiates it warmth upon us we always seem to try to stretch just a little higher than the days past. To that little eight year old Branch, I can only hope I have been able to give her the shade and protection I have all of my other Branches thru the years. Now as she celebrates a new “Ring” in her branch I wish her love, strength, & wisdom. I know she’ll find her proper place in the sun & she’ll reach ever higher each day. HAPPY EIGHTH BIRTHDAY Josie Marie Gray. Always remember, Your Papa LOVES YOU!…”Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>

…”so I trudged back up”…

20150613_125051_resizedToday has really been a laid back Sunday afternoon. After lunch my Bride decided she wanted to watch “My Show! My Show”! So that meant I was banished to The Cave. Yeah, “it’s a hard life but somebody’s gotta do it”. It might as well be Me! After bein’ down there a short time I decided to lumber down to the water & just check things out. I was sittin’ in the swing on the pier just relaxin’ & soakin’ the peace & quiet in. There were just a few boats out on the lake in our area. I heard my (favorite) neighbors walkin’ down to their pier. I throw up a friendly wave & they returned it with one. They got in the water on some floatin’ chairs & enjoyin’ the same peace & quiet. The sun moved behind some clouds, a slight breeze picked up, & the motion of the swing got my attention. I shuffled over to the pontoon boat, dug out a Life Jacket, shuffled back to the swing, folded the Life Jacket in the proper pillow shape, got the swing goin’ like I wanted it, laid down & got TOTALLY RELAXED! Thirty (30) minutes later I wake up with a light rain blowin’ in on my face. What a way to ruin a good nap! Oh well, so I trudged back up to The Cave & here I am! Hope y’all have as good of an afternoon as I have had…”Hold’em Hook”…..BG>
