…”Hot Tottie”!…

It’s been one of those long dreary Fall Days. Got a lot accomplished though. Just kickin’ back right now, in my La-z-boy, with a nice “Adult Beverage”! Served myself up a couple of shots of Amaretto in a Whisky Sippin’ Glass, ran it thru the Microwave to warm it up. A true “Hot Tottie”! If you haven’t enjoyed one you SHOULD! Aahhh…”Hold’em Hook”!….BG>

…”Folks, let me tell ya”…

Just Chillin'Today I was the recipient of a “Beautiful Lovin’ Letter”. Let me give you a little background here. My Middle Grandchild, a six (6) yr old 1st grader, was havin’ sort of down day a couple months back. I don’t remember the exact situation but it revolved around her bein’ the “Middle Child”. She was feelin’ sad & I told her I understood. I explained to her that “I too was a Middle Child”. And trust me it does make a difference in the life of a child. Many of you will recall “no you’re not old enough/ready for that”. Or “No he/she is the baby leave them alone or let them have it”. I explained to her the “First child” will always be the first to get to do things. “The Youngest” of three will always get by with more than the first two because they’re “The Baby”. “The Middle Child” is expected to learn from the older siblin’ & to help teach the younger siblin’. That’s just life! I said “just always remember You’re just as Special as the 1st or the 3rd child”. And always remember “you & I both are Middles & that will always be our special bond”. We will always be “Middle-Middles”. With tears in her eyes she said “I love you Papa” as she hugged me! Yes, yes, my eyes too were waterin’ up! Now to today. As my son & his family were packin’ up to leave, after havein’ been here the last few days, for Thanksgiving, “My Little Middle-Middle” comes out of their room & said “Papa I have somethin’ fpr you”! I asked “what is it? And she held up a letter she had written to me. Well, I was washin’ some dishes in the sink. {{{{{ YES I DO DO THAT FROM TIME TO TIME ! }}}}} So, I asked her to read it to me. Gigi told me to “stop & read her letter”, or somethin’ to that affect. I said “no I want Her to read it to me”. Well she did! Yes, I was wellin’ up with tears AGAIN! So everyone stopped in their tracks as she began to read. These are her (written) words.

“I love you so much Midl Midl. You are my twin. Win you told me you wr a midl child it sprised me with joy. I love how you play with me. It is like you are my bruther. I wish you livd with me. But you just dont’. (signed)…Midl Midl”.

Yep, you guessed it! I was wellin’ up with tears & my heart wasa thumpin’. Mom, Dad, & Gigi were all Ooooin’ & Aaahin’. I was holdin’ back the tears as best as I could! Folks, let me tell ya “Life just don’t get much better than that”!…”Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>

…”So, yes I did!”…

It’s that time of year again. The “Holiday Season”! Turkey/Thanksgivin’ Day is this Thursday. I’m slowly gettin’ my chore list, I have been assigned, completed. Everything got vacuumed last Thursday. So when I took an “Ole Friend Fishin’ ” on Friday I didn’t get in trouble. Yesterday while my Bride was workin’ of some hand stitchin’ to try & get her New Fall Quilt finished I was takin’ care of the Washin’, Dryin’, Foldin’, & everything put away. Today’s agenda consisted of gettin’ all Six (6) of the Ceilin’ Fans upstairs vacuumed & cleaned off & replacin’ some of the light bulbs in the attached fixtures as needed. Got the ladder & vacuum cleaner put away & I didn’t even fall off of the ladder once. “DONE”! After scroungin’ around for somethin’ for lunch I just happened to find the last four (4) eggs in the frig. “Plop” went the butter into the skillet, cracked all four (4) of’em eggs gently, & got’em all in there without breakin’ any of the Yokes! After gently gettin’em rascals “over easy” in the skillet they platted up perfectly. A dash of Salt & Pepper to taste! Got me a couple of pieces of “White Loaf Bread”, for soppin’ up the runny yokes, like I did as a child, & a glass of Lemonade to wash it all down with. Remember how ya used to “lick the remainin’ runny yoke out of the plate, when your Mother wasn’t lookin”? Well, I’m home alone & No Body was lookin’. So, yes I did! Lunch is done, cleaned up & gotta head to the shower to defunk-a-fy myself. Hope you all have a wonderful day…”Hold’em Hook”!…BG>

…”to Protect the Freedoms”…

As I sit here this mornin’, as the aroma of my Mug-O-Joe wafts around me, I find myself reminiscing about yesterday. Rocky Ridge Elementary School (in Hoover, AL) held their “2017 Veteran’s Day Program” in advance of Veterans Day, on November 11, 2017. It was such a movin’ event put on by The Fourth (4th) Grade Class & Volunteer Teacher Staff. The Guest Speaker was Retired Command Sergeant Major Jerry McClain. And what an impact he had on the young students, & even some of us older folks, there. He was impressive! I was just one (1) of many Veterans in attendance there. Not only was I invited by my two Granddaughters, 1st & 3rd graders who attend school there, but they sat beside me durin’ the entire program. There were several Patriotic  Songs preformed by the members of the 4th Grade. There was one young man who performed two (2) Solos on his Violin. There were also a couple of solo songs, well performed, by other students. I was both impressed & touched. Several times durin’ the program I was touched to the point of tears. Those of you that know me know that I get emotional. My 1st Grader caught me @ one of those times & asked “are you OK Papa”? At that point it just got worse, I couldn’t swallow, but forced out a “Yes Ma’am” response to her. She put her arms around me, hugged me, said “thank you for your service Papa”!. & followed by an “I love YOU Papa”. Again, I couldn’t swallow, tears filled my eyes & trickled down my cheeks. I just hugged back & kissed her gently on top of her head, & wiped my tears. Near the end there was a Slide Show showin’ members of the Students & Staffs families who have Served in our Five (5) Military Branches. When the slides of my Granddaughters relatives, who had served (their Great Grandfathers & Me), came up I went through the same scenario with my 3rd grader as I had with my 1st grader. I was an emotional wreck! But, I wouldn’t trade it for anything! Again, it was a wonderful presentation by the 4th Graders & School Staff. But most importantly, & I think I can say this for all of The Veterans in attendance there, it is a good thing that these young people are bein’ taught what the meanin’ of Freedom is, the toll it has taken & continues to take to Protect the Freedoms they/we have & live under. God Bless America. {{{{{ SALUTE ! }}}}}…”Hold’em Hook”…..BG>

…” I will NEVER NEVER”…

The Ghosts & Goblins shadows are still in sight! The Wild Turkey is still runnin’ loose in the Woods or has already been put in a Bottle! And there are those out there already tryin’ to force “X” on us & want us to celebrate it. What or Who is “X”? In my family we have always looked forward to Thanksgiving. Not only for the upcomin’ wonderful Thanksgiving Meal, Family & Friends gatherin’ in our home, a Wonderful Thanksgivin’ Meal, & the Thanksgiving Parade on TV. Because we all know, by the reactions of the little children, that Santa Claus is always @ the end of that Goofy Parade. And we all know once that Friendly/Fat/Lovable Character, all adorned in his Red & White outfit,  is either drug down the street in a “Rusty Ole Sled by Eight (8) Mangy Deer” or Riddin’ on a Float with Wavin’ Elfs, & the tossin’ of Candy Canes is completed can the Football Games finally begin! The commercial world created the “X” Day. They were/are so busy to get out ahead of the “Great Pumpkin” & the “Thanksgivin’ Turkey” that they didn’t even create their own Character. They tried to down-play the “Reason For The Season” by gettin’ You, The Consumer (& mostly Women), to rush out & buy their over produced, over priced products, mostly manufactured over seas (to lower standards & quality) so they can make their year end sales look better. Why do you think they reduce their prices at the END of the year? Can you say “Old Inventory”! Why do you think they call it “Black Friday”. Because “EVIL has always be shrouded in BLACK”! How many of you paid too much for those same, or similar, products earlier in the year? {{{{{ SUCKER ! }}}}}…As for My Family & Me we have & always will accept “Christ” into our home & Celebrate His Birth as “The Reason For The Season”. Not “X”! “X-Mas” has NO PLACE in My Home or Life. I will greet you durin’ this festive season with “Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays” or “Merry Christmas & Happy New Year”. I hope you will respond to me in a similar manner. But I will NEVER NEVER wish you or greet you with Merry X-Mas!…”Hold.em Hook”!…..BG>The Holy Bible

…”The Ole Grey Lady Ain’t What She Used To Be”…

Just Chillin'Bein’ raised in Birmingham, AL, I have many wonderful memories of Legion Field, “The Old Grey Lady”! And some not so wonderful. I attended many many High School & College Football Games there. The Old Cripple Childrens Clinic & Dental Clinic Games were held there in my younger years. Many of you won’t remember those. I ran many many laps around the Old Cinder Track there in Track Meets, both in Elementary & High School years. It may still be there, that was a long time ago. I love, respect, the interest that is being shown to keep Legion Field open & active. But it always come down to The Tax Payers. It seems every time The City Of Birmingham tries to bring a New Sports Entity to “The Magic City” to occupy that facility, that will probably be gone in just a matter of a few years due to a lack of support, Tax Dollars HAVE to be taken from other projects to bring them to town. For some strange reason this also seems to happen during Election Years. Locals won’t & can’t talk about it as it is “Hot Potato” & NO ONE wants to be the last to be caught holdin’ it. The sad fact is that the Area of Town around “The Old Grey Lady” has decayed to a point that most of the spectators, that are needed to support those activities, are uneasy about gettin’ to & from the events held there, in recent years. Yes The City Of Birmingham DOES increase Security at events, at a COST to WHO? But there is still the uneasy feelin’ of gettin’ both into & out off the area that hinders those who might otherwise want to attend those events. There are limited/few Restaurants to enjoy a nice meal before or after the events, as many like to do. Parkin’ becomes very limited if the even draws the crowds the promoters anticipate. Patrons become concerned about their vehicles as well as gettin’ back & forth to their vehicles. Deep down, I hope the “Old Grey Lady” can survive. I truly do. It would be sad to see such a facility, with so much History, die as so many other Sportin’ Facilities, of her age, have across the nation. “The Ole Grey Lady Ain’t What She Used To Be”….BG>

…”Yep,The Eyes tell it all”…

Ya know, life deals us all those “FUNNY moments” we have NO control over. The next time you’re among a group of people notice their faces. Their eyes especially! The Eyes tell it all. Ya have the stare, the cuttin’ side to side, the slight squint, the bulge, the slow blink, the closin’ with that long pause, & on & on & on. You know what I mean. Now the question is “who was it” that committed what ever the action was? These are tale tale signs that the one you’re lookin’ at just reacted to somethin’ significant!  Yeah, you know I mean! Then it’s the sudden shiftin’ of bodies, as everyone, in close proximity, reacts to what you too have noticed. The wrinklin’ of noses, the step backs from someone, then the quick exit of The One! Yeah, you picked’em out first! Then, after those few uneasy moments pass, you walk by The One, tap’em on the shoulder, & quietly whisper “Good One”! Now there are only two possible responses that individual can have. They turn & wonder “what are you talkin’ about”?, as an act of denial. Or They know that You know that They are “The One” that just FARTED! Yep, “The Eyes tell it all”…”Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>
