…” stay out of the heat, hydrate plenty”…

IMG_0364I got up this mornin’ & enjoyed my “Mug-O-Joe (x3)” while catchin’ up on the world. The local News said 20% chance of rain with 90 to 100 % Humidity. The chances of rain will go up for the rest of the week so I though I’d get my grass cut before the rain sets in. At 8:30 a.m. the Power goes out! My bride was in the shower, I called the Coosa Valley Power Company to report the outage. So, I pulled out the Portable Gen-Set, kicked off all the breakers, fired up the Gen-Set, connected the house up, threw the safety swich, flipped all the fuses back on except the AC & we were back up & runnin’. My bride turned on all six (6) ceiling fans upstairs & I turned on the two (2) downstairs, in The Cave. I finally got started on the yard around 9:30 a.m. & I can say I got it done before lunch 12:30 p.m.. Cut, weed eatin’, & blowin’ everythin’ clean. Hell, I even washed the underside of the cuttin’ deck on my mower. When I finally got everything put away I sat down & realized the neighbors power was back on. I let my Bride know I was goin’ to kill the Gen-Set reverse the fuses again, I double checked with her about ours & she said everything was goin’ & the AC was back on. So, I disconnected the Gen-Set, shut it down & decided to sit & cool down a bit. I then realized just how much the heat & humidity had taken out of me. I was soaked from sweatin’ & cleansin’ my pores. I finally drug myself up for a nice cool shower, grabbed some lunch, & am now chillin’ in “The Cave”. Y’all stay out of the heat, hydrate plenty, & chill…”Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>

…”FUN, FUN, FUN!!!”…

Clean up duties here this mornin’ after my son & his family left for “The Ham”.  My Bride had headed to work as well. After mornin’ chores was Lawn Mower Shoppin’ time. After 11 yrs my old one, after 11 hard years, laid down & died on me last week. This evenin’ my Bride & I got thru with a “Left Overs Supper” so I went down to the Boathouse afterwards with a “Perch Jerkin’ Rig” in hand. Needed to work off some stress. You know, the tensions of bein’ Retired! My Son left some “Live Red Worms” here so I thought I’d just help myself. I think I only really used about 6 of’em all total. But damn’em Lil Suckers were all over’em. The total catch was 2-spotted bass (1 of which was pretty good. On 6 lb. test line on a medium action rod it was a blast!), 2-bream, & about 25 to 30 small Squealers/CatFish. FUN, FUN, FUN!!! Made me recall “Ole East Lake Park” days as a child. “Hold’em Hook”!….BG>

…”The Ole Potty Dance”…

barrett-school-5th-grade-63

With today being “National Potty Dance Day” it takes me back to my childhood days. My memory takes me back to the homes I lived in only havin’ ONE (1) bathroom in them. And there always seemed to be a WAITIN’ LINE to get in there. Many times when you did get in there you didn’t always have it to yourself! Those ole bathrooms were small, no divider walls or curtains to offer privacy to, you, the User! If there were an ADULT in there, well, they ALWAYS got complete privacy! Durin’ my earliest years I can remember, in my Grandparents house, there was always a WAITIN’ LINE to get into the (only) bathroom there. “The Man of the House” always has First (1st) Rights & they always seemed to have the News Paper with’em!!! Butt, @ my Grandparents house, there was the “Ole Ceramic Pot/Slop Jar/Bedside Pot/Honey Pot”, what ever you called it, available. And as a child it always seemed to fit us Children BETTER than it did the Adults, it just goes to show “Size Does Matter”! Butt relief (pun intended) wasn’t too far away. Later in life my (Widowed) Mother remarried & we moved from there. Again we only had a “One Holer” IN our, rental, home. Butt we did have a patch of woods just a few steps out the back door. I learned @ an early age to always keep a, clean, tissue in my pocket or know the leafs that were around me!I made that trip many a time! If you were afraid of the dark, well you just might have a MESS to deal with at times. We moved a few years later, just a few blocks away, & again only a “One Holer”. My (Step) Dad didn’t like us keepin’ an “Ole Honey Pot” around, cause “We had Pot to Piss IN”! Butt we did have an ole detached garage out back, & there was a worn down path out to it. We always kept the grass & weeds cut out there of course! My children don’t realize just how lucky they are. Their homes have ALWAYS had @ least two (2) or more Potties in’em. So traffic issues really haven’t been a problem for them. Yep, “The Ole Potty Dance” brings back memories…”Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>

…”my shorts, tee shirts, & sandals”…

FALL is here! All of the Colors of Fall are supposed to be comin’ . BUT not for us, HERE in East Central Alabama. Oh, the colors are changin’, but they are so muted, & it isn’t from the Cool Temperatures. It is from the lack of rain fall, the Drought Conditions we are in, & the record high temperatures we are experiencin’, for this time of year. Like today it is projected to get up to 87 degrees (F) with a low tonight projected to be 56 degrees. And the comin’ week is just goin’ to be more of the same. As for any rain in our future here, well, it’s not too promisin’. We are already facin’ water Conservation Practices, Rationin’. The Local Water Departments aren’t concerned if your expensive lawn of shrubs dye off. They are more concerned with quality & quantity of life. That’s what are really designed for, right! If you’re caught exceeding NORMAL usage, during these extreme times, you/we are subject to Fines, as it should be. There are also “Burn Warnin’s” in effect for us. Because everything is just so dry. Again, ignorin’ these warnin’s can bring fines as well. And the expense of results too should you be found to be responsible for a fire that gets out of control. Your best bet don’t light that FIRE! Our State is expericin’ more Wild Fires then normal for this time of year. We are fortunate though that we don’t experience he types of Wild Fires as other parts of the country. But those that are directly affected buy the ones here may feel differently about that. As for me & my family we have never been directly affected by’em. Thank God!  So, I’ll just continue to enjoyin’ my shorts, tee shirts, & sandals. In closin’ I say onto you “Enjoy your day”…”Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>

…”Guess I’ll just sit here”…

The Pier is ready 05-13-16

Damn the yard look good even if I do say so myself. The grass is freshly cut, trimmed, & all blown free of debris. I even got all of those Hicker Nut & Pine Cone remains the Squirrels dropped on the driveway down to the water. But they’ll be back to morrow startin’ yet another mess.I think I’ll go polish me up a fresh batch Of BB’s in anticipation. The Bride is shoppin’ with a friend today. Don’t know when she’ll be home. An it doesn’t matter. She’s enjoyin’ herself. That’s all that matters! There’s thunder rollin’ in the distance north of here. The skies have changed from Blue & White Fluffy Clouds to Gray Clouds rollin’ in as the Thunder rolls nearer. I’ve cleaned me up as well, got my dirty cloths washed & now dryin’. I’m now just relaxin’ on the Deck takin’ all of this in. Got my “Oldies” playin’ the way I like’em.The trees are all just as calm as can be. Almost in anticipation of a comin’ Summer Rain Storm. The Slough is free of any traffic as is the Main Channel for the time bein’. I’ve got “New Neighbors” movin’ in next door. That now makes three (3) New Families that have joined us in our small piece of Heaven right here in “The Big Pell”. The dark clouds continue to get closer, a light breeze is now bringin’ in somewhat cooler air.  Be it just a couple of degrees it is enough to tell the difference & make it nicer to be out here on The Deck. The/My Flag is startin’ to wave in the breeze kickin’ up.  What a Beautiful Sight to this Ole Vet! This is where the Ole Sayin’ that “If You’re Lucky Enough To Live On The Lake You’re Lucky Enough” comes into being. Yeah, I am! Guess I’ll just sit here for a while longer & enjoy this nice afternoon. Hope y’all do the same…”Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>

…”enjoy your mornin'”…

22218_989848007712282_8481197791787430355_nLets see: Mug-o-Joe-check, in my favorite chair on the front row-check, ceilin’ fan of low-check.

Good Mornin’ World, yes, it’s a beautiful mornin’ from “The Deck” ! It’s been a while since I have posted anything. I think it’s been a combination of a little bit busy & a lot of laziness. But the good thing about it is that it’s another beautiful day from where I’m sittin’ & viewin’ the scenery. I know many of you right now are enjoyin’ the mornin’ view somewhere from along a coast line or maybe the mountains. I enjoy them as well when I’ m there. But for my money, I just don’t think it can beat what I have right here. And I only had to travel from the Bedroom (with a couple of stops along the way) to The Deck for it. There’s the sound of a single boat headin’ up river, probably headed to their favorite “Fishin’ Hole”.Lookin’ out across the yard the first thing that catches my eyes are the two Gardenia Bushes in the yard. From the lack of pretty white blooms on them I guess they have peeked for this year and there are fewer as the days pass. But they still are puttin’ out that wonderful aroma they are famous for. Birds, birds, & more birds! I feel as though my head is a Radar reciever as I’m constantly turnin’ my head, up-down-left-right, to fine tune a different bird singin’ it’s song. Peaceful? Yes it is! There goes a motor cycle headed across Stemley bridge. Such an enjoyable sound to the many of us who are or have been riders. {{{ Wow ! }}}…an Osprey just swooped in for a Snatch & Go out on the slough. And no it’s nothin like the Snatch & Go’s that happen in Walmart or Mall Parkin’ lots. Um-m-m, there’s the bottom of the Mug, guess it’s time for refill on the Joe. Y’all enjoy your mornin’ where ever you are…”Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>

…”Family is Family”…

The house is ready & our New HVAC System workin’ like a charm! The yard is all cleaned up, cut, weed-eated, & all trimmn’s blown away. The Pontoon Boat is pressure washed, vacuumed, charged up, fueled up & ready. Groceries put away. Now to pickup Mother-in-Law from the Airport in “The Ham” later this evenin’. My son & his family will be here Friday evenin’ once all of the “Law Dawg” work is done. My Sister-in-Law, her husband, & daughter will be commin’ in on Saturday evenin’. Yep, it’s about to get busy here in “The Big Pell” for the next 10 days. Lookin’ forward to everyone bein’ able to visit. These days there just isn’t enough of that. Too much distance between us all & too many busy schedules to adjust for. But Family is Family & we’ll get through it…”Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>
