…”ran off the Local Canadians”…

20Spinnin' Rod.With my third (3rd) Mug-O-Joe & the Fog liftin’ I started my day this mornin’ with little “Top Water” action. A Spinnin’ Rig with a Bone Flavored/Colored Popper. Bur-r-r-r it was 48 degrees here on the slough with a slight breeze. As I approached the Pier it seems my activities ran off the “Local Canadians” (Geese). I had several strikes, hung two, lost both. But it was fun…“Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>

…”Gonna be a good day!”…

I’m down in “The Cave” for the day. Gotta get busy…Strippin’ old 14# test mono of off one Ole Spinnin’ Reel, on a 7 ft rod, & gonna re-spool it with 12# test mono. Then mounted NEW-Replacement Spinnin’ Reel, on another 7 ft rod, & spooled it as well with 12# mono. Walked down to the Pier to make a few casts before the Auburn – Texas A&M game. The New-Replacement reel has a Suspending {{{ Jerk }}} Bait on it. About 7 or 8 casts & hooked up. Had to get the drag adjusted on it. Then enjoyed the tuggin’ & jerkin’ for a short time. Finally got it in & a quick release. I then picked up the other rod with the older reel that had my trusty “Ole Chrome & Blue” tied on. Two (2) casts & {{{ HOOK-Up ! }}} on a small Stripper. Now that was fun. Again, another quick release. Then grabbed the other rod & headed to the house for the Kick Off of the AU game. Made it just in time! Here we go! {{{{{ COLD Beer & a Fresh Bag of Ruffles ! }}}}} as AU kicks off in to the End Zone. Gonna be a good day! {{{{{ ROLL TIDE ROLL ! }}}}}…Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>

…”WHAT A WAY TO END MY DAY!”…

About 4:00p.m. Ole Chrome & Blue & I sauntered down to the water to relax a little. I quickly caught two Small Spots feedin’ on Schoolin’ Shad. Then I hooked a very nice one & it got off after a few seconds. Then as luck would have it I broke a very nice one off. My fault! I had a couple of burrs in my line. I headed up to the Ranger in the basement & got a brand new one & tied it on. Ya can’t ever have too many Chrome & Blues available. I got back down to the water, was fishin’ off of my neighbors pier, & hooked up to a “DOUBLE”! For those not familiar with that term it’s “Two (2) fish on One Plug at the same Time”! I fumbled around with my phone camera  & got a picture of’em. Not Wall Hangers but it was a DOUBLE! Then three (3) casts later I did it again!!! A SECOND DOUBLE! Again I got’em in, up on the pier, fiddle farted around with my phone camera & while restin’em on the pier one got off & back into the water. To make matters worse IT was the bigger of the second DOUBLE! It was now 5:30p.m. so I headed back up to the house. It was time for supper. But hey! WHAT A WAY TO END MY DAY! Oh, pics attached…”Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>

…”Sweet Peas in a pot “…

This afternoon I took a Chartreuse Lizard down to the slough to walk the bank with. I ended up with three (3) very nice Spots. All of ’em were spittin’ half digested Shad up as I was tryin’ to get’em off of the hook. I missed the best one (1) of all though. On his second jump the threw that damn Lizard right back at me. But after about 45 minutes it was time to head back to the house & get supper a cookin’. My Bride a snoozin’ on the Love Seat. Cookin’ on my shoulders this evenin’. Pork Backbone/Ribs & Rice as a quick skillet entree’. Gonna throw Sweet Peas in a pot to simmer & Applesauce on the side. In just 30 minutes we’ll be sattin’ down to the table to enjoy – Yum-m-m…”Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>

Part # 7b…Bein’ Prepared! …”That’s not what you had on when you left this mornin”…

Part #7…Bein’ Prepared!…“Bein’ Prepared is somethin’ that was always taught & instilled in me by my Mother”.

(Continued Part #7b)…

Well, Thank God he didn’t! He came bobbin’ up spittin’ & sputterin’, cussin’ & demandin’ we help get his ass out of that  {{{{{ COLD ! }}}}} water. At that point, now knowin’ our dear friend was not dead or seriously injured, let me say YES, the laughter broke out. NO, IT REALLY BROKE OUT! He finally got out of the water soaked to the bones. Oh, and there was a slight breeze had kicked up. Again The Banker & I were concerned for his well bein’ but he said he was OK! So the Banker served another round! I was prepared! I told The Marine “I had some DRY cloths in a storage compartment under his feet”. He said he was fine, as his teethe were chatterin’ & lips were turnin’ purple, he wasn’t goin’ to put those “Fat Boy Cloths” on, he’d be fine. He was referin’ to me & bein. bigger than I had been in years gone by. I said “hey, they’re DRY”! The Banker still laughin’ like hell, in the middle, asked who needed another {{{{{ COLD ! }}}}} Beer? I raised my hand. For some strange reason The Marine wasn’t in the mood for a {{{{{ COLD ! }}}}} Beer, as he cussed us & we continued to laugh @ him & relive his fall into the Lake & drinkin’ {{{{{ COLD ! }}}}} Beer. He just kept on shiverin’. I don’t remember exactly how long it went on but, eventually, I heard in a shameful voice “Where’d you say those dry cloths were”? I asked “Oh, those FAT BOY CLOTHS”? We laughed even harder! And The Banker asked “Who wants another {{{{{ COLD ! }}}}} Beer? The Marine finally had the dry cloths out. Then question was asked “isn’t there somewhere we could go to get out of the OPEN so I could change”? I responded “do you REALLY wanted me to FIRE that motor up & RUN a few miles back up river @ 50 MPH with you soakin’ ass wet”? A few more cuss words were directed at me. He decided to just strip down where we were. Now, we hadn’t seen another boat ALL day & out of no where we hear a boat comin’ in our direction. The Marine was buck naked by now, an it wasn’t pretty either, & justa bitchin’ @ me to get him out of the open! The boat was comin’ even closer, now the sounds of women’s voices & laughter could be heard in the distance. The phrase “Aw Shit was uttered”! Too late! I don’t know if they even saw us/HIM, but he thought they had. The Banker & I were still laughin’ like hell! “Who wants another {{{{{ COLD ! }}}}} Beer”?, came from the center of the boat, again. The Marine finally got dried off & dressed in dry cloths, we stowed our gear & headed for the boat launch, still laughin’. We got the boat loaded & headed to toward home. We got to The Marines House. As we pulled up, parked & started gettin’ his gear out, & eased toward his front door there his Bride was to welcome him home. The Banker & I were doin’ all we could to keep from breakin’ out in laughter again. Then his Bride says, somethin’ to the effect of,”That’s not what you had on when you left this mornin’ “! Well, The Banker & I lost it, again! Just another day shared among Ole Friends…Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>

Part # 7a…Bein’ Prepared! …”That’s not what you had on when you left here this mornin”…

Part #7a…Bein’ Prepared!…“Bein’ Prepared is somethin’ that was always taught & instilled in me by my Mother”.

Back in December of 1990 the US involved in Desert Storm. A Ole Friend of mine, The Marine, was on notice he was about to depart on active duty, shippin out to God knows where to return God only knew, as Ordered by the USMC. Another Ole Friend, The Banker, & I decided we needed to take The Marine Fishin’ before he had to ship out. Well, we set a day to go. The day came & I swung by the Marines house & picked him up. His bride was up to see him off about 5:30 in the mornin’ as we pulled out. We met up with The Banker there at The Marines house. “Lake Wedowee here we come”! But Lake Wedowee seemed to mostly be abandoned when we got there.. After all it was by now about 6:30am, it was chilly, but there wasn’t any wind. The sun was gettin’ above the horizon & it was goin’ to be a GOOD DAY for Ole Friends to spend time together. We got the boat launch, stowed everyone’s gear, snacks, & checked to make sure the Beer was stored & on ice in the boat. We were in a Dry County so we were goin’ to have to keep the beer out of sight, well, as best possible. As we pulled away from the boat launch there was the distinct sound of a {{{{{ Ptisss! }}}}}, yes, it was BEER TIME! The Banker was bar tendin’. We found us a spot we decided we were goin’ to start our day. We fished Topwater – nothin’. We worked Shallow Ridges – nothin’. We started workin’ Standin’ Timber, which that lake has plenty of, we worked all different depths with various lures – nothin’. As we were fishin’ of course our attention & discussions turned to The Marine gettin’ ready to ship out in just a short time. The Banker & I decided to put this trip together because it WAS possible that could have been the last time the three of us we ever together again. War is War! It’s unsure. The conversations got involved with all of the Worlds Issues leadin’ up to where we, The USA was involved in it. Our Friend was a Marine & he was goin’ where he was ordered. The more we talked the more we realized what we all meant to each other. The {{{{{ Cold ! }}}}} Beer was flowin’ freely & we looked like we were fishin’ anyway. I can’t remember just what triggered it, but for some odd reason I turned to face the back of the boat. We were in my boat so I was on the Bow runnin’ the Trollin’ Motor. The Banker was in the middle of the boat, closer to the {{{{{ COLD ! }}}}} Beer, & keepin’ us from havin’ a “Parched Throat” of course. The Marine was perched on the Stern Deck surveyin’ the water for his next cast. Well, I turned & caught a glimpse of the back of the boat, there was The Marine, as in slow motion, off balance, already headin’ head first, The Banker was dodgin’ bein’ landed on, he Marine dropped his rod from his hand, tryin’ to regain his balance or grag onto SOMETHIN’ to stop himself, & he had that “Oh – Shit” look on his face! Then  {{{{{ “Ker-Splash ! }}}}} “Man Overboard – Starboard Side”!. Now remember, I said earlier this was in DECEMBER! That Lake Water was {{{{{ COLD ! }}}}}. Our first response was to make sure he was OK & not goin’ to Sink in that 40 feet of water we were sittin’ in. (to be continued…)

…”Yep, Lake Life!”…

Today my Bride & daughter, havein’ returned yesterday from their “Girls Beach Week”, were kinda just veggin’ out. I spent a little over an hour out on The Deck finishin’ up my Mugs-O-Joe. Well, the mornin’ just drug on. Lunch time came & went by quickly. I decided I was goin’ to go get in the lake. I needed to gas up the Pontoon Boat & piddle around down on the pier anyway. So I went & dug out my “Ole Speedo”, slipped it on, checked myself out in the mirror, yep, lookin’ good! I gathered up three of my 6-gal gas tanks from the basement, loaded’em on the Pickup Truck, grabbed my rod with “Ole Chrome & Blue” tied on & down the driveway I went. I gathered up all five of our water floats, got in the water with’em and washed’em down good. Re-stacked four of’em & I took the other one out in the slough to just bask amongst the light breeze & ripples on the water. Layin ‘ out there lookin’ up I saw a couple of Osprey circlin’ over head lookin’ for a meal. After about an hour I got out of the water secured all the floats & put the 18 gals of gas in the Pontoon. I dug out a couple of hammocks from the storage locker on the pier & hung’em as well. I got out the Catfish food and fed the fish around the pier. Looked like Piranha boilin’ the water! The hammocks were swayin’ in the breeze & one of’em caught my attention. Thirty minutes later I woke up & realized I needed to head back up to the house. I gathered up the empty gas cans & the unused rod & backed the truck back up the hill. Yep, Lake Life! What a nice way to spend an afternoon…”Hold’em Hook”!…..BG>
